CBSE Class 12 supplementary practical examinations for compartment-category students got underway on Wednesday and will continue until August 4.
The exams are for students placed in the compartment category due to a Repeat Practical (RP) or Repeat Theory and Practical Both (RB) requirement in one or more subjects.
Students in the RP category, who failed only the practical component, are required to appear only for the practical exam, with their theory marks from before carried forward.
Students in the RB category, needing to clear both theory and practical components, must appear for both parts of the supplementary examination.
CBSE had asked eligible students to contact their school or examination centre by July 27 with their result or marksheet copy and admit card to confirm their allotted schedule.
Regular students will take the practicals at their own schools, while private candidates will appear at the centres assigned for their theory exams, with alternate venues arranged by CBSE regional offices where laboratory facilities are unavailable.
External examiners for the practical exams are appointed only by CBSE regional offices, while schools appoint internal examiners from their own teaching staff.
Practical marks must be uploaded the same day as the exam and become final immediately after submission, with no provision for subsequent changes.
CBSE generally declares compartment results within three to four weeks of the exams, which would place the announcement in the first half of August; students will be able to check the result on cbse.gov.in and DigiLocker using their roll number, school number, centre number and admit card ID.
CBSE typically finalises and uploads Class 12 supplementary results within a few weeks of the exams concluding, allowing eligible students to proceed with college admissions without a long delay.
The supplementary examination window gives compartment-category students a chance to clear pending subjects within the same academic year, rather than waiting for the next annual cycle.
