Anti-paper leak bill with 10-year jail term clears Cabinet

An anti-paper leak bill proposing tougher penalties cleared the Union Cabinet on Friday, hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the plan.

The bill amends the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, raising the minimum jail term for paper-leak convictions from three to five years.

For organised paper leaks, the bill proposes a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine of up to Rs 10 crore.

The move follows the 2024 NEET-UG and UGC-NET paper leak controversies that had led to the original Act.

The bill is likely to be taken up for consideration and passing in Parliament on Monday.
