Flights at Delhi’s IGI Airport remained unaffected on Tuesday even as an India Meteorological Department red alert brought heavy rain to the NCR.
The airport’s advisory, issued by operator Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), said adverse weather conditions were expected through the day, though operations were continuing normally at the time.
Passengers were advised to check their flight status directly with their airlines before leaving for the airport, given how quickly conditions could shift.
Air India, SpiceJet and IndiGo also issued advisories of their own, asking travellers to stay informed about their flight timings during the red alert.
According to the IMD, Delhi, Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad were set to see cloudy skies, intermittent light to moderate rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds through the day, with an additional spell of rain likely in the evening or night.
An orange alert has also been placed over the region for the following 48 hours, indicating the unsettled weather will continue even after Tuesday’s red alert conditions ease.
This follows a similar red alert issued a day earlier for eastern Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Maharashtra, where the IMD warned of extremely heavy rainfall and flash flood risk, part of an active monsoon spell across northern and western India.
Comparable red alerts had also covered Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir earlier in the week as the same system moved across the region.
Officials also warned that the heavy rain could lead to traffic congestion and waterlogging in several low-lying parts of the city.
Commuters were urged to check road conditions before travelling and avoid flooded stretches, even as the airport reported no disruption to flight schedules, with travellers advised to plan for extra time given the unsettled week ahead.
The airport operator has said live flight information remains available through its official website and social media channels for passengers checking the latest updates.
