A red alert has been declared for Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand as the India Meteorological Department warns of very heavy rainfall over the next two days.

The IMD has also forecast widespread rainfall over Ladakh through the rest of the week.

Wind speeds could reach up to 80 kmph in some areas, raising the risk of uprooted trees and power outages, according to the department.

Traffic disruptions and waterlogging in low-lying areas are also expected as the rain continues.

Authorities in hilly states have cautioned about the risk of landslides and sudden rises in river water levels.
