India’s benchmark equity indices closed lower for a fifth consecutive session on Friday, as crude oil prices climbed further amid rising tensions between the United States and Iran.
The Sensex ended the day at 76,059.77, down 331.62 points or 0.43 per cent, while the Nifty 50 settled at 23,767.45, down 102.15 points, also 0.43 per cent, and below the 23,800 mark.
Auto, metal and energy stocks were the biggest losers on the day, given their exposure to global crude oil price movements.
IT and media stocks moved against the trend, ending the session higher and limiting the overall fall in the indices.
Both the Sensex and the Nifty have now declined for five straight trading sessions.
