Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated development projects worth more than Rs 35,000 crore in Vadodara on Tuesday, then travelled to Mumbai to open the Global Fintech Fest.
Three sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, covering 326 route kilometres and costing over Rs 20,700 crore, were dedicated to the nation during the visit.
The Prime Minister laid foundation stones for the Vadodara Urban Development Authority Ring Road Phase II and a 110 MW floating solar project at Kadana Dam.
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana housing and a water-supply project for 11 villages in eastern Vadodara were also inaugurated.
The Global Fintech Fest 2026, now in its seventh edition, runs in Mumbai from September 8 to 11.
India’s dedicated freight corridor network, once complete, is intended to shift a larger share of freight traffic off congested passenger rail lines and onto purpose-built goods corridors.
The Prime Minister’s Office said the combined projects inaugurated and foundation-laid during the Gujarat leg of the visit were valued at more than Rs 35,000 crore.
The Western Dedicated Freight Corridor is a dedicated rail line built to move freight trains separately from passenger traffic, cutting transit times and easing congestion on India’s busiest goods routes.
The three newly dedicated WDFC sections run from New Sanand to New Makarpura, New Umbergaon to New Saphale, and New Saphale to New JNPT, together covering 326 route kilometres.
